HighSchoolOT is giving a sneak peek at the upcoming boys swimming & diving season through its yearly watch list.

The list of swimmers and divers for this year consists of 27 individuals from various regions in the state. Certain athletes are mentioned more than once as they excel in multiple events.

List of Boys for Swimming and Diving to Watch

The players are organized by their event and the time they achieved in last year’s championship.

  • Hayden Schroeder from Lake Norman Charter, a senior, was the champion in diving with a score of 554.20 in the 3A competition. This score set a new record for the 3A division and earned Schroeder a spot on the HSOT First Team All-State.

  • diving: William Sullivan, Middle Creek (senior) — 516.85, 4A champ, HSOT First Team All-State
  • Jacob Pollina, a sophomore from Northern Guilford, placed fourth in the 4A diving competition with a score of 462.45. He was also named to the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • Andrew Commins from Carrboro, a senior, won the 3A championship with a time of 1:38.24. He was named to the HSOT First Team All-State. He received 200 free as a prize.

  • “Norvy Clontz from Charlotte Latin (junior) achieved a time of 1:38.55 and won the NCISAA D1 championship, earning a spot on the HSOT First Team All-State with 200 free.”

  • Wiley Spinner from Charlotte Latin (senior) received 200 free with a time of 1:38.87. He placed 2nd in NCISAA D1 and was also selected for HSOT’s Second Team All-State.

  • Landon Lloyd of Green Hope High School, a senior, achieved a time of 1:39.85 in the 200-meter race, earning him second place in the 4A division and a spot on the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • Charles Heisig from Marvin Ridge High School placed third in the 200 Individual Medley event at the 4A State Championship with a time of 1:49.41. He was also named to the HSOT Second Team All-State.

  • Freddy Klein from Charlotte Country Day, a senior, won the 200 IM race at the NCISAA D1 championship with a time of 1:49.46. His performance also set a new record for the NCISAA D1 division and earned him a spot on the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • In the 200 IM event, Clem Camacho from Broughton High School (junior) placed 4th with a time of 1:49.67. He was also selected for the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • Lucca Battaglini, a senior from Durham School of the Arts, achieved a time of 19.47 and was named the 3A champion with a State Record. He also earned a spot on HSOT’s First Team All-State, receiving 50 free.

  • “Sean Setzer and Ashley (senior) received 50 free awards, with a time of 20.20 seconds, placing second in the 4A category and being named to the HSOT Second Team All-State.”

  • “50 free: Albert Smelzer, Page (sophomore) placed third in the 4A division and was named to the HSOT Third Team All-State.”

  • 100 fly: Lucca Battaglini, Durham School of the Arts (senior) — 47.74, 3A champ (State Record), HSOT First Team All-State
  • In the 100 butterfly event, Matthew Marsteiner, a senior from Leesville Road High School, achieved a time of 48.03 seconds and was named the 4A champion. He also received the HSOT First Team All-State recognition.

  • Aidan Hill from Charlotte Latin (senior) won the NCISAA D1 championship in the 100 fly with a time of 48.69. He was also selected as part of the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • Thad Austin from Wesleyan Christian (junior) achieved a time of 48.95 in the 100 fly event, placing second in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Division 1 and earning a spot on the HighSchoolOT Third Team All-State.

  • Granger Bartee from Providence Day (junior year) achieved a time of 44.78, placing second in the NCISAA D1 and earning the HSOT Second Team All-State award. 100 free race was offered for free.

  • Albert Smelzer, a sophomore at Page High School, earned a score of 44.94 and placed second in the 4A category. He was also selected for the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • Nate Hohm of East Mecklenburg High School was ranked third in the 4A category and was named to the HSOT Third Team All-State. He received 100 free notifications during his senior year.

  • “Matthew Marsteiner of Leesville Road (senior) achieved 500 free in 4:21.88, earning him the title of 4A champion and HSOT First Team All-State.”

  • Samuel Marsteiner of Leesville Road High School (senior) received 500 free with a time of 4:27.55, earning second place in the 4A division and being named to the HSOT Second Team All-State.

  • Freddy Klein, a senior from Charlotte Country Day, placed second in the NCISAA D1 and was named to the HSOT Third Team All-State. He achieved a time of 4:30.47, earning him 500 free.

  • Jack Haywood, a senior from Providence, earned a time of 4:30.69 and placed fourth in the 4A category. He was also named to the HSOT Third Team All-State. 500 free:

  • Bartee Granger, a junior at Providence Day, finished with a time of 48.11 and became the NCISAA D1 champion (breaking the NCISAA Record). He was also selected for the HSOT First Team All-State.

  • James Bennison from Heritage High School was awarded 100 points for his outstanding performance in the senior division. He achieved a time of 48.92 seconds, making him the 4A champion. Additionally, he was recognized as part of the HSOT Second Team All-State.

  • William Witmer, a senior from Hoggard High School, placed second in the 4A division with a time of 49.12 seconds. He was also named to the HSOT Second Team All-State.

  • Thad Austin from Wesleyan Christian, a junior, received 100 points in a competition. He placed second in NCISAA D1 and was selected for HSOT’s Third Team All-State.

  • Abhay Tharakan from Apex High School (junior) was recognized for his achievements, receiving 100 back and placing third in the 4A division at the HSOT Third Team All-State.

  • In the 100 breaststroke event, Grayson Nye of Middle Creek High School (junior) achieved a time of 54.13, earning first place in the 4A category and setting a new record. As a result, Nye was named to the HSOT First Team All-State.

  • In the 100 breaststroke event, Charlie O’Shea of Charlotte Country Day, a senior, finished with a time of 56.01, earning the title of NCISAA D1 champion and being named to the HSOT Third Team All-State.
