Top recruit Cooper Flagg announces commitment to Duke :: WRALSportsFan.com

Cooper Flagg, a highly sought-after basketball player with a five-star rating, has revealed his intention to join Duke’s team.

Flagg, a forward standing at 6 feet and 8 inches and weighing 195 pounds, hails from Montverde Academy. He is widely recognized as one of the most prominent high school athletes in recent history and is expected to follow the trend of “one-and-done” players by heading to the NBA. According to various recruiting rankings, Flagg is currently regarded as the best player in the class of 2024.

The announcement was posted on social media on Monday morning.

Flagg visited Duke the weekend of Oct. 20 and was there for Duke’s “Countdown to Craziness” event. It was widely circulated in recruiting circles that Flagg had narrowed his decision to Duke and defending champion UConn. In August, Flagg made an unofficial visit to Durham.

After arriving on campus, Flagg expressed his enthusiasm for being in Durham in a Twitter video, saying, “The warm reception and energy I experienced made me very excited. Witnessing the passion and atmosphere in Cameron, I am grateful for the chance to become part of the brotherhood. Go Duke!”

The Maine native, Flagg, was supposed to make his decision public on Thursday, but due to a mass shooting in his home state that resulted in at least 18 casualties on Wednesday night, the announcement was postponed.

Duke has secured commitments from two top players in the class of 2024, Kon Knueppel and Isaiah Evans.

Duke is predicted to win the ACC this year, with sophomore Kyle Filipowski receiving the title of Preseason ACC Player of the Year. The team has four returning starters, setting them up for potential success, and a promising group of recruits, with guard Jared McCain leading the way.

On November 6th, Duke will begin their season by hosting Dartmouth.
