No. 16 Western Alamance stays unbeaten with close road win against Orange

The undefeated dream is still alive for Western Alamance following a 2-1 win at Orange in Wednesday night Central Carolina 3A Conference girls soccer action.

Western Alamance (11-0-1, 6-0), ranked 16th in the state and second in the 336 area code, opened the game with a quick strike from sophomore Alison Thomas. The Warriors continued to pepper the net with shots on goal, but they were met by Orange senior Makayla Davis. Davis, who entered the game with a 0.762 goals against average, made several saves on shots inside the 18-yard box to keep the Panthers in the game.

And then, despite the first 30 minutes of dominance by Western Alamance, the game changed on a dime.

Orange (6-4, 3-3) tied it up in the 31st minute as a long ball down the left side from Caroline Cathey sprung free fellow junior Elliana Sullivan Gaddy.

Gaddy got to the ball first and lofted her shot over the coming keeper. It was only the sixth goal the Warriors have allowed this year.

The two teams went into halftime 1-1 and the second half was evenly played. The difference came down to Western Alamance senior Trinity Robinson drawing a PK in the 57th minute and converting from the spot to go up 2-1.

Western Alamance swept the season series, having also won on March 18 against the Panthers by a 3-0 score.
