HighSchoolOT has released their initial rankings for girls basketball in the month of February, including their Top 25 teams and area code rankings.

Last week, the state’s top 25 girls basketball teams experienced minimal losses, resulting in little change to HSOT’s Top 25 rankings.

Both North Mecklenburg and Independence suffered their second loss to a conference opponent with a higher ranking, causing them to drop a few spots in the rankings.

New Hanover, South View, Northwest Cabarrus, and Western Alamance returned to the top 15 in the rankings for their respective area codes. North Rowan joined the 704’s Top 15 for the first time this season.

Here are a few things about how our rankings work in girls’ basketball:

  • The rankings are refreshed every week and made public on Mondays.

  • Every high school in North Carolina, except for athletic training academies, is qualified for the top 25 ranking in the state.

  • The state’s six area codes have a separate weekly updated top 15 list.

  • The rankings will be put on hold during the playoffs of the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

  • The rankings for the final week will be published following the state championships.
