The volleyball team from Green Hope has advanced to the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 4A state playoffs.

The Falcons, seeded 11th, had a strong performance on Saturday morning as they defeated Overhills (ranked 22nd) in three sets with scores of 25-7, 25-6, and 25-15.

Green Hope was in control during the initial two sets, however Overhills mounted a comeback in the third set. The Falcons took a timeout while leading 17-11 in the third set, and then proceeded to score 8 points out of the next 12 to secure the victory.

Green Hope has maintained strong momentum after their recent victory. Despite a loss to Middle Creek on September 21st, the Falcons have only dropped one set. In their past nine games, they have won 27 out of 28 sets.

On Tuesday, Green Hope (19-3) will face the victor of (27) Panther Creek and (6) Millbrook in the next round. Millbrook is the current 4A state title holder.

The season for Overhills concludes with a record of 17 wins and 4 losses.
