The unexpected success of East Wake comes to an end as they are defeated by First Flight.

East Wake, ranked as the 24th seed in the 3A East bracket of the N.C. High School Athletic Association, had already defeated two teams with single-digit seeds before facing their toughest opponent of the year, First Flight, who held the top seed.

The Nighthawks, as hosts, faced a strong challenge from the Warriors, but their impressive winning streak came to an end as First Flight, who remained undefeated, emerged victorious with a score of 3-1 on Monday evening.

The first score of the game was made by First Flight (19-0-1) in the second minute, but East Wake (13-7-1) quickly responded with a goal in the ninth minute.

The Warriors had defeated 9th-seeded Cape Fear in the initial round and 8th-seeded Southern Nash in the following round.

The second goal for First Flight was scored right before the end of the first half, in the 35th minute, followed by one more in the 70th minute. During this time, East Wake managed to stay within reach by making three 1-v-1 saves and stopping a penalty kick.

On Thursday, the Nighthawks will be hosting a fourth round match against the fifth-seeded Southern Durham team, who will be competing in the fourth round for the first time.
