The Los Angeles Lakers continue to have a successful season.

Lake Norman, ranked eighth in HighSchoolOT’s most recent statewide Top-25 poll, dominated the game against West Rowan with a 24-point second quarter, ultimately winning 78-49.

Both teams successfully made three-point shots in the beginning of the game.

During the opening quarter, Will Givens and Brant Graham successfully made three long-range shots for the Falcons. On the opposing team, Tre McKinnon and Grant Dryden also made three-pointers. Trent Steinour managed to score a dunk despite heavy traffic and also assisted Dryden’s second three-point shot, giving the Wildcats a 15-12 lead at the end of the quarter.

During the second quarter, Lake Norman dominated the game. Santana Lynch aggressively drove to the basket and also made a three-pointer, earning 11 points. McKinnon contributed six points of his own, including an impressive dunk over a defender while rebounding a missed three-point shot.

At halftime, Lake Norman was ahead 39-18.

In the third quarter, Lynch maintained his exceptional performance from the wing, scoring six out of his total of 19 points. He was then substituted by point guard Nick Arnold, who contributed six points to the team’s score in the same period.

Will Googins had a strong fourth quarter and helped secure the win with a 60-38 lead. He scored 12 points, along with Lynch and McKinnon, making them the three Wildcats to score in double figures. With a comfortable lead, coach Grant Hodges was able to give Josh Yates, Aidan Cauthren, and Myles Crumes a chance to contribute in the late stages of the game.

West Rowan was led by Givens’ 13 points. In the third quarter, the Falcons were able to outscore the Wildcats, with Elijah Holmes making two three-point shots.

Next Tuesday, Lake Norman will bring its undefeated 7-0 record to Mount Tabor for a rematch of their November 28 game. The Wildcats narrowly won the previous matchup with a score of 46-43.

On Wednesday evening, West Rowan will play against North Rowan. The Falcons currently have a record of 2 wins and 1 loss.
