The Shaw University women’s soccer team has advanced to the USCAA championship final.


The Shaw women’s soccer team has progressed to the USCAA Small College Division I National Championship Game by defeating Maine-Fort Kent 3-0 in the semifinals, held at the Montour Junction Sports Complex on Friday.

The Lady Bears, with a record of 15 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie, will compete against the two-time reigning champion Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse for the national championship this Sunday, November 19th, at 6 p.m. The game will take place at Highmark Stadium. In the other semifinal match, Bryant & Stratton defeated Carlow with a score of 4-0.

Shaw’s Sina Kummerow was the first to score, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime. Leila Soto and Victoria Hines secured the victory for the Lady Bears with goals in the second half. Ellie MacDonald assisted on Hines’ goal.

The upcoming championship game will be a repeat of a previous matchup between the two teams during the regular season. The game in Syracuse, N.Y. was closely contested and ended with Bryant & Stratton securing a 1-0 victory on Oct. 1. The Lady Bears are determined to level the playing field and claim the championship trophy on Sunday.
