The history of NCHSAA volleyball championships: winners listed by year and school.

The inaugural N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball championship took place in 1976, with Dudley emerging as the victor over T.C. Roberson for the overall title.

In 1985, the championships were initially divided into 4A/3A and 2A/1A categories, and then expanded to four classifications in 1986.

The most significant shift in the game occurred in 2003, transitioning from side-out scoring, which only allowed teams to earn points on their own serves, to rally scoring, where the serving team does not determine the scoring (the required points to win a set were also raised from 15 to 25).

Due to the impact of the pandemic, the 2020 championship was held in the year 2021.

Cardinal Gibbons and Fred T. Foard are not far behind Hendersonville, which holds the record for the most team titles with a total of 12.

Cardinal Gibbons holds the record for the longest championship streak of seven consecutive wins from 2009 to 2015. Jordan, Green Hope, and Hendersonville have each achieved four consecutive wins.

Molly Pyles from Hendersonville and Sydney Dowler from Green Hope were both named four-time MVPs in the championship match.
