The boys swimming team from Carrboro High School has claimed their 4th consecutive championship title, while Lucca Battaglini from Durham School of the Arts has broken multiple records.

Carrboro has won the N.C. High School Athletic Association boys swimming & diving state championship for the fourth year in a row.

On Thursday, at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, the Jaguars emerged as the top team in the 3A championship, surpassing Lake Norman Charter. Carrboro ended the day with a total of 237 points, 39 points ahead of their opponents.

Andrew Commins was the leading force for the Carrboro team, achieving three gold medals. He conquered the 200 freestyle in 1:37.96 and the 100 butterfly in 48.33. Additionally, he teamed up with Matt Strada, Oliver Normand, and Grey DeWalt to secure first place in the 400 freestyle relay.

Carrboro earned their fourth gold medal of the event when Strada finished the 200 yard IM in 1:55.95, securing the win.

In both 2021 and 2022, Carrboro emerged as the victor in the 1A/2A state championship. Following that, they went on to secure 3A titles in both 2023 and 2024.

On February 8, 2024, Lucca Battaglini from Durham School of the Arts competed in a swimming event.

Durham School of the Arts placed third in the team rankings thanks to Lucca Battaglini’s exceptional performance, where he broke two state records. Battaglini was also awarded the title of Most Outstanding Swimmer for the third consecutive year.

The initial state record was surpassed in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 42.60. Later, Battaglini broke the state record in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 47.30.

Battaglini has currently achieved fourth place in state records. In the previous year, he set new state records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

On Wednesday at the Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh, Hayden Schroeder from Lake Norman Charter set a new 3A record for diving. He scored 581.7 points, surpassing his previous record.

Jay Burroughs from Commins and Lake Norman Charter were selected as the winners of the NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award.

Forestview High School’s relay team consisting of William Peyton, Andrew Taylor, Graham Kines, and Beckett Tabor had a time of 1 minute and 39.17 seconds.

The team members of Lake Norman Charter, including Neil Hart, Ethan Licata, Alex Stinson, and James Burroughs, achieved a time of 1:40.74 in their event.
