On Saturday, Hunter Sallis achieved a new personal record of 33 points as Wake Forest defeated North Carolina State and DJ Horne 83-79. This victory allowed the teams to even out their season series.

Sallis, who transferred to Gonzaga, had a shooting percentage of 12 out of 17, made 4 out of 6 3-pointers, and sunk all 5 of his free throws.

Sallis made two free throws in the last 1.7 seconds of the game after Horne missed a midrange jumper that was well defended. Horne ended the game with a season-high of 31 points, shooting 13-of-21 from the field and making 4 of 7 shots from the three-point line.

With 18.1 seconds remaining, Andrew Carr made a shot in the paint that secured the final lead for the Demon Deacons (16-7, 8-4 ACC).

Carr scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kevin Miller contributed 10 points and six assists, while Cameron Hildreth also added 10 points to the team’s final score.

The Wolfpack (15-9, 7-6) was led by DJ Burns with 14 points and Mohamed Diarra with 13 rebounds and 12 rebounds.

After being behind by six points at halftime, Wake Forest maintained a narrow advantage for the majority of the last 10 minutes and secured their third consecutive win while also getting revenge for their previous 83-76 loss against the same team earlier this season.

Horne scored a series of impressive layups and a 3-pointer during the last 3 1/2 minutes of the first half, earning 10 consecutive points and assisting the Wolfpack in ending the half with a 45-39 lead. Horne’s outstanding performance resulted in 19 points in the first half, while Sallis’ strong play helped the Deacons stay in the game with 18 points.

The Wake Forest team will face off against Duke, ranked 9th, on Monday. The N.C. State team will play against Clemson on the following Saturday.
