Providence Day’s Blane McElroy named Gatorade NC POTY in girls soccer

Providence Day junior Blane McElroy took home a second player of the year award on Thursday, adding the Gatorade N.C. Girls Soccer Player of the Year honor to her collection. She was also named N.C. Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year earlier this month.

The midfielder helped the Chargers finish the season 24-1-1 and win the N.C. Indepdendent Schools Athletic Association 4A title and a No. 1 ranking in the final HighSchoolOT statewide top 25. She had 39 goals and 31 assists.

According to the Gatorade press release, McElroy “has volunteered locally with Tigers Got Goals, a summer camp she co-founded to benefit the Soccer Foundation of Charlotte, an organization that provides after-school soccer and literacy programs for underserved communities. She has also helped deliver several soccer clinics through Freedom School Partners, a summertime literacy program for under-resourced youth.”

The Purdue recruit has a 4.32 GPA and is the second girls soccer player from Providence Day to win the award.
