Pack defeats Mount Olive to end preseason on a high note :: WRALSportsFan.com


On Wednesday night, the NC State Men’s Basketball team won against Mount Olive, 89-79, in their only preseason exhibition game at PNC Arena.

The Wolfpack had five players who scored in double digits, with Casey Morsell leading the team with 14 points. DJ Burns Jr. and Jayden Taylor both had 13 points, while DJ Horne scored 12 and Mohamed Diarra added 10. Ben Middlebrooks, Dennis Parker Jr., and Diarra also had a strong rebounding game with seven rebounds each. Michael O’Connell and Burns each had three assists.

At halftime, the Pack had a commanding 20-point lead of 44-24, which was their biggest lead of the first half. In the second half, NC State extended their lead to 22 points when Burns made a three-point play, putting the Wolfpack ahead at 66-44 with 12:19 remaining in the game.

NC State’s reserves scored a total of 43 points, with Taylor leading the way with 13. They also took advantage of mistakes made by the Trojans, scoring 24 points off of turnovers.

The Wolfpack will resume play on Monday, Nov. 6 at PNC Arena for their first regular-season game. They will be facing The Citadel in the first of three consecutive home games. The match between the Wolfpack and Bulldogs will begin at 7 p.m. and can be watched on ACC Network Extra.
