Noah Rogers, a wide receiver, is coming back to the Triangle.

Following his time at Ohio State, the ex-Rolesville High standout will be joining the team at Carter-Finley Stadium this upcoming fall, following his decision to commit to NC State on Thursday. Rogers confirmed his choice in a text to WRAL News.

On Monday, Rogers declared his decision to enter the transfer portal, just a few days after the Buckeyes lost 14-3 to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl to end their season.

Coach Dave Doeren adds another major player to his roster as Rogers joins NC State in Doeren’s 12th year as head coach. In high school, Rogers was highly regarded in the state and was ranked as a 5-star recruit by multiple recruiting services.

Rogers appeared in two matches for the Buckeyes in 2023, but did not make a reception.

NC State’s receiving core will be strengthened by this addition, making it a promising unit with the comeback of KC Concepcion.

Grayson McCall, a native of North Carolina, moved to NC State in December after previously playing for Coastal Carolina. McCall has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year three times.

NC State has been actively utilizing the transfer portal, which became a focal point after the program was caught off guard by it in the previous season.

Doeren expressed that they were not ready for many of the unpredictable events that occurred. He mentioned that some players enter the transfer portal, and by the time they are allowed to be recruited, they have already narrowed down their top three school choices.

The personnel department of the program identified players who were eligible to enter the portal and may have shown interest in joining the Wolfpack.

Doeren asked, “How are they faring out there?” He continued, “If they were to come in, would they be potential candidates for us to consider? That way, if the situation arises, we will be prepared instead of being caught off guard with someone entering.” The team did extensive research and planning for potential scenarios in that office.

As of now, NC State holds the fifth spot in On3’s evaluation of transfer class rankings.

In June 2022, Rogers made a verbal commitment to play football for Ohio State. He had garnered interest from NC State and North Carolina, but ultimately chose the Buckeyes over other strong programs like Clemson and Florida State. During his junior year of high school in 2021, Rogers had an impressive season with 70 receptions for 1,432 yards and 22 touchdowns.

NC State has also secured commitments from former standout high school players, including Wesley Grimes from Wake Forest and Tamarcus Cooley from Maryland, for their football team.
