No. 8 Jacksonville hands No. 22 Topsail its first loss of the season

A first half goal was the only tally needed for No. 8 Jacksonville on Monday in a clash just one county over.

The Cardinals stayed undefeated on the young year with a 1-0 shutout of No. 22 Topsail.

In the win, Jacksonville (6-0-3) became just the second team to score a goal on Topsail (8-1-1) this season. The Pirates have only allowed three — the other two coming in a 2-2 tie with Enloe.

The Cardinals have the rest of the week off before resuming conference play next week. Jacksonville has just one nonconference match left following Monday’s match.

Topsail had some near-chances in the final 10 minutes thanks to some free kicks and corner kicks taken by sophomore Zoey Kulas. The Pirates also will not have a game for the rest of the week, resuming next Monday with league play against Hoggard. The Jacksonville match was their last nonconference game of the year.
