NCHSAA announces spring state championship dates, locations; Soccer moving to Mecklenburg County

The Charlotte area will host the girls soccer state championships for the first time this spring, the N.C. High School Athletic Association announced on Wednesday afternoon.

On May 31 and June 1, the NCHSAA will hold the girls soccer state championship games at the Mecklenburg County SportsPlex at Matthews, which is located just outside of Charlotte. This marks the first time the state championship games in girls soccer will be played in Mecklenburg County.

Previously, soccer state championships have been held in the Triad and in the Triangle. Last year, the games were played at UNC-Greensboro.

The NCHSAA released the full slate of state championship dates and locations for spring sports on Wednesday.

Boys tennis will be the first sport to hold state championships. The individual tennis championships will be played on May 10-11 at four different locations: 1A will be at Cary Tennis Park, 2A will be at Ting Park in Holly Springs, 3A will be at the Burlington Tennis Center, and 4A will be at Millbrook Exchange Park.

Dual-team boys tennis state championships will be played on May 18 at the Burlington Tennis Center. This marks the 19th time Burlington has hosted the dual-team championships.

Boys golf state championships will take place on May 13 and May 14 at four different courses, including three first-time hosts.

  • 1A Boys Golf: 7 Lakes Golf Club in West End
  • 2A Boys Golf: Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe
  • 3A Boys Golf: Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines
  • 4A Boys Golf: Pinehurst No. 9.

Longleaf Golf & Family Club is the only course that has hosted a boys golf state championship prior to 2024, although Stonebridge Golf Club hosted a girls golf championship last fall. Pinehurst has hosted state championships 23 times, but never on No. 9. Previous championships at Pinehurst were played on No. 2, No. 4, No. 6, and No. 8.

Lacrosse state championships will be returning to the Durham County Memorial Stadium for the second straight season. These games will be played on May 17 and May 18.

Track & field state championships will also be held on May 17 and May 18. The Marcus T. Johnson Track at N.C. A&T will again host the track & field championships. 2A and 4A competition will be held on May 17, with 1A and 3A competitions on May 18.

The final weekend of the spring season will be May 31 and June 1 when girls soccer, softball, and baseball state championships are held.

Softball state championships will be played at Duke and UNC-Greensboro, while baseball state championships will be played at the Burlingotn Athletic Stadium and Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. Classifications will be assigned to specific locations at a later date. All softball and baseball state championships are a best-of-three series.
