Lake Norman Charter heads back to boys lacrosse title, wins at Bishop McGuinness in West regional final

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — A few years ago, Lake Norman Charter won its first boys lacrosse playoff game. They haven’t lost in the postseason since.

The Knights are poised for a three-peat in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A/2A/3A championships after a 16-8 victory at Bishop McGuinness in the West regional final on Tuesday.

You could argue that this Lake Norman Charter team had the toughest road of any in this three-year run. After back-to-back close wins entering the West final, defeating Christ the King 13-12 and top-seeded Community School of Davidson 13-11, Bishop appeared as though it was going to be another nail-biter for the Knights.

The host Villains matched the Knights goal-for-goal and highlight-for-highlight in the first two quarters and the two were tied 7-all at halftime.

But Lake Norman Charter (14-7), the fourth-seed in the West, made an important adjustment in the second half.

Bishop senior faceoff specialist Miles Fuehler, a Wagner recruit, won 21 of his 23 faceoffs on the night. The Knights began to force enough turnovers to counteract that in the third quarter, shutting out the Villains in the period, and outscoring them 9-1 in the second half.

Bishop (17-5), seeded third, were led in scoring by John Miller’s four goals. Matthew Cetrone, a junior, added three.

Other scorers included Fuehler (1 goal), Mason Payne (1 assist), and Ward Bennett (1 assist).

The Knights were led by Michael Lindsey’s four goals (all in the second half).

Jack Dalton (2 goals, 2 assists), Tyler Price (3 goals, 1 assist), Tristan English (2 goals), Stevie Parker (2 goals), Riley Cerosky (1 assist), and Landon Foshee (1 goal) also got into the act.

The Knights will face Orange in the championship on either Friday or Saturday at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
