Out of the 16 teams that have progressed to the 2023 NCHSAA Regional Final round, 15 have previously reached this stage. The sole team that has not is West Columbus, who is a finalist in the 1A East division.

Several of the teams that made it to the semifinal round this year were also present last year: Mount Airy, Tarboro, Reidsville, Northern Nash, Seventy-First, and Weddington.

The 16 regional finalists have a collective record of 98 wins and 54 losses in previous occurrences of these games.

4A East

• In 1973, the team was represented by L Sanford with a score of 28-9. In 2006, L Rose took the stage with a score of 31-29. In 2007, they defeated S. Durham with a score of 21-6. In 2014, L New Bern scored 49 points but ultimately lost with a score of 49-14. Finally, in 2017, they faced off against Scotland and lost by a close margin of 47-46 in the 4Ae category.

They bounced back in 1995, winning against W. Guilford with a score of 21-19 in the 2Ae division. The following year, they defeated S. Columbus with a score of 56-19 in the 2Ae division. In 1997, they continued their winning streak by defeating E. Duplin with a score of 33-0 in the 2Ae division. In 2001, they once again won in the 2Ae division, this time against E.
