HighSchoolOT statewide top 25 preseason rankings for the 2023-2024 girls basketball season

The top-ranked team in HighSchoolOT’s preseason girls basketball Statewide Top 25 rankings is Grace Christian School of Sanford. Their leading player is senior forward Sarah Strong, who is also ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the country.

Following Grace Christian are the previous year’s contenders in the 4A state championship match: Panther Creek, the reigning champion, and Lake Norman, the runner-up from last year.

The eastern region of North Carolina performs marginally better in the overall state poll compared to its ranking in the boys category. This poll includes 10 teams from the eastern area, while the boys rankings only have nine.

Below are some details about our system for ranking girls’ basketball teams:

  • The rankings are refreshed every week and published on Monday mornings.

  • All high schools in North Carolina, with the exception of athletic training academies, are qualified for the top 25 ranking in the state.

  • The state’s six area codes have a separate top 15 list, which is updated on a weekly basis.

  • The rankings are put on hold while the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs take place.

  • The finalized rankings will be published the following week following the state championships.
