Dan Mahan, a junior quarterback from Williams, has officially committed to Appalachian State.


The 2025 recruiting class for Appalachian State’s football team has received its first commitment from a player within the state.

On Thursday evening, Dan Mahan, a junior quarterback at Williams High School, revealed his decision to commit to the Mountaineers.

He made the announcement on his X profile.

Mahan gained momentum as a potential player before being named the starting varsity player at Williams.

The quarterback, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, also received scholarship offers from Boston College, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Liberty, and Miami (OH).

As the starting quarterback for Williams this season, the junior had a completion rate of 140 out of 238 passes, resulting in 1,776 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Williams ended the season with a 9-3 record and came in second place in the Central 3A Conference.
