Brett Chappell, coach of Pisgah’s football team, steps down from his position.

Brett Chappell, the head football coach at Pisgah High School, has stepped down from his position after leading the team for 11 years. This was confirmed by the school to HighSchoolOT on Monday morning.

The Black Bears just finished their 2023 season, ending with a 9-3 record. Pisgah’s season concluded with a defeat against Oak Grove in the second round of the 3A West playoffs on Friday evening.

The school has announced that the decision was made jointly by the administration, athletic department, and Chappell personally.

In 2013, Chappell assumed control of Pisgah in Canton. Throughout his time as head coach, he accumulated a record of 94 wins and 39 losses. Under his leadership, Pisgah consistently qualified for the playoffs. Additionally, Chappell’s tenure featured a notable nine-game winning streak against their rival team, Tuscola.

The coach guided Pisgah through difficult periods.

In 2021, the community was hit by Tropical Storm Fred, resulting in destructive floods, including at Pisgah’s Memorial Stadium. The Bears were forced to play away from home for two consecutive seasons until the stadium was repaired and they could return in the fall.

This morning, the athletics department at Pisgah released the following statement:

Brett Chappell, the Head Football Coach at Pisgah High School, has officially stepped down from his role as head coach.

After thoroughly examining all aspects of Pisgah High School’s football program, the school’s administration, athletic department, and Coach Chappell made this decision. The school would like to thank Coach Chappell for his dedication and efforts during his tenure at Pisgah High School. We wish him luck in his future coaching opportunities.

The quest for a fresh Head Football Coach will be thorough, adept, and prompt. The process will include a small team of football advisors and will commence right away to guarantee a seamless changeover for the football program. Pisgah High School leadership is committed to discovering a new head football coach who is the perfect match for our student-athletes, school, and community. Any questions should be directed to Clint Conner, Principal, or Heidi Morgan, Athletic Director.
