Player in the spotlight (Mario Gotze):
Mario Gotze, a midfielder from Germany, began his career playing for Ronsberg and Eintrach Hombruch before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2001. He showed significant improvement during his time at the Borussia Dortmund youth academy and on November 21, 2009, he made his debut in the Bundesliga for the team.
Gotze netted 22 times in 83 games for the team from 2009 to 2013 before making the move to Bayern Munich, their biggest rivals, in April of 2013. Although he can also play as a forward, the German player did not make a strong impression during the 2015/2016 Bundesliga season, possibly due to an injury he sustained at the beginning of the campaign.
Mario Gotze was born on June 3, 1992 in Memmingen. He won three Bundesliga titles while playing for Bayern Munich, but he returned to Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2015/2016 season. In 2014, he represented Germany in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and scored the winning goal in the final against Argentina.
