Our prediction for this Euro 2024 match:

Croatia

Croatia

Italy

Italy

A place in the EURO 2024 knockout stages will be at stake when Croatia and Italy go head to head at Red Bull Arena (Leipzig) on Monday evening. The Croats dropped two points in a 2-2 draw with Albania, but a win over Italy will see them book their spot in the last 16. Ante Budimir is widely expected to replace Bruno Petkovic in the starting XI, while veteran Luka Modric should keep his place in the starting XI.

The Azzurri, on the other hand, produced an under-par performance in a 1-0 loss to Italy, with the team taking only one shot on target in the Veltins Arena clash. As Croatia are a very experienced side, we believe that punters from all around the globe can find value in betting on Mateo Kovacic and Co. Speaking of Luciano Spalleti’s troops, there are no fresh injury worries, but Juventus man Andrea Cambiaso should sneak into the starting XI.

Highlighted Player (Luka Modric):

Luka Modric

Luka Modric is regarded as one of the best central midfielders in world football. The Croatian ace is a product of Dinamo Zagreb’s youth school and it has to be noted that he played 94 league games for the Modri between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £16.5 million.

Luka made his Tottenham debut on 16 August, 2008 in a 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium. The Croatian star scored only 13 goals in 127 league appearances for the Spurs, but he is well known for his brilliant passing. In 2012 he signed for Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million and he made his debut against Barcelona in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup, return leg.

Modric quickly established himself as a first-team regular and, no doubt, he helped the capital club win two Champions League trophies (2013/2014, 2015/2016). You should bear in mind that he was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014.

Highlighted Team (Italy):

Italy

With four World Cup titles and one European Championship trophy, Italy remain one of world’s most successful teams and they have also finished as runners up at major tournaments on four occasions. The Azzurri have become famous for their result oriented football over the years which is perfectly suited for World Cup and Euro finals, so it is now a surprise when they fail to reach the final stages.

After winning the second and third edition of the World Cup, Italy endured a difficult period until lifting their first European Championship title in 1968, while they also managed to show some improvement at the turn of the century. While winning the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Azzurri reached Euro finals in 2000 and 2012, and they are still regarded as one of the leading sides in Europe.

There have been too many high-profile players leaving their mark on the national team to count, but the likes of Paolo Maldini, Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Dino Zoff, Roberto Baggio, Luigi Riva and Alessandro Del Piero will go down as some of the most successful ones.
