Myers Park successfully defends their 4A dual-team girls tennis championship against New Hanover.
After losing to Green Hope in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A dual-team girls tennis state championship last season, Myers Park made a comeback on Saturday afternoon and successfully won the title this time.
The championship was not easily won. In a matchup between two teams with perfect records, Myers Park emerged victorious over New Hanover by a score of 5-4, with the final point secured in the No. 2 doubles match.
Anne Mason Moore and Agnes Shinn from New Hanover’s team emerged victorious in the No. 2 doubles match, defeating Lucy Dimock and Caroline Morrison from the same team with a score of 8-5. This win secured the team championship for New Hanover.
The Wildcats emerged victorious in the remaining two doubles matches.
Sophia Catino and Hanna Davis won the No. 1 doubles match against Teagan Reilly and Kayla Nofziger with a score of 8-0. Additionally, Elle Harmon and Elizabeth Sifly defeated Finley Holzman and Cyrette Curran in the No. 3 doubles match with a score of 8-3.
After the singles matches were finished, Myers Park held a 4-2 lead.
Teagan Reilly beat Sophia Catino 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 singles, Anne Mason Moore beat Hanna Davis 7-5, 6-2 in No. 2 singles, Agnes Shinn beat Lucy Dimock 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 singles, and Finley Holzman beat Elizabeth Sifly 7-5, 2-6, (10-8) in No. 5 singles.
Myers Park has claimed the dual-team girls tennis state championship for the first time since 2016. In the past, they have been the runner-up three times, losing to Green Hope on each occasion.
Myers Park finishes the season with a perfect 21-0 record, while New Hanover boasts a 25-1 record.

Singles:
Teagan Reilly of Myers Park defeated Sophia Catino of New Hanover 6-4, 6-2.
Anne Mason Moore of Myers Park defeated Hanna Davis of New Hanover with a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Agnes Shinn from Myers Park defeated Lucy Dimock from New Hanover with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
The fourth match was won by Elle Harmon of New Hanover against Kayla Nofziger of Myers Park with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
In the fifth match, Finley Holzman from Myers Park defeated Elizabeth Sifly from New Hanover with a score of 7-5, 2-6, and a tiebreaker of 10-8.
Caroline Morrison from New Hanover defeated Lane Galloway from Myers Park in a match with a score of 6-0, 6-3.
Doubles:
In the first match, Sophia Catino and Hanna Davis from New Hanover defeated Teagan Reilly and Kayla Nofziger from Myers Park with a score of 8-0.
#2 – Anne Mason Moore/Agnes Shinn (Myers Park) def. Lucy Dimock/Caroline Morrison (New Hanover), 8-5
Number 3 – Elle Harmon and Elizabeth Sifly from New Hanover High School defeated Finley Holzman and Cyrette Curran from Myers Park High School with a score of 8-3.
