A foundation has been created in honor of Matthew Perry, less than a week after his passing, to assist individuals struggling with addiction.

“Inspired by Matthew Perry’s unwavering dedication to aiding those battling addiction, we begin a mission to commemorate his legacy through the creation of the Matthew Perry Foundation. Guided by his own words and personal experiences, and fueled by his desire to positively impact as many lives as possible, the foundation was officially established on Friday in an inaugural statement.”

The actor from “Friends”, who was nominated for an Emmy, frequently discussed his battles with substance abuse. The organization, currently accepting donations, highlighted his wish to be remembered as someone who aided others with addiction, rather than just his fame from the sitcom.

The National Philanthropic Trust will continue to oversee the foundation. There is no additional information available about the organization at this time.

On October 28th, paramedics discovered Perry unresponsive at his residence in Los Angeles and declared him deceased at the age of 54. The cause of death is currently under investigation by authorities.

For 10 seasons, he appeared on NBC’s “Friends” alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
