wood No. 5 Crestwood’s victory in rivalry game attributed to strong defense and special teams performance.

On Friday, No. 5 Crest proved themselves to be one of the most well-rounded teams in the state with a dominant 39-14 victory over No. 12 Kings Mountain, finishing their regular season with an undefeated record.

On their first possession, the Chargers swiftly advanced down the field with AJ Adams scoring a touchdown on a fast jet sweep play.

Next, the Crest defense dominated the game.

D’various Surratt intercepted a pass from Kandan Zollo on the following drive by Kings Mountain. He ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown, bringing the score to 13-0 in favor of the Chargers.

During the next five minutes of the game, Crest intercepted Zollo twice, with the second interception made by Surratt, leading to another touchdown.

UNC commit Jarvarius Green hauled in a dart from Tater Huskey to make it 19-0 Chargers and it looked like the route was on… but Kings Mountain fought back.

The Mountaineers earned two consecutive touchdowns, one from a pass by Zollo to Teddy Jeffries and the other from a run by Josiah Hall, on both ends of halftime.

Despite a rough beginning, Kings Mountain managed to narrow the score gap to five points. However, their momentum was short-lived.

On the following kick return, AJ Adams scored his second touchdown of the game, giving the Chargers a boost of momentum and leaving the Mountaineers feeling deflated.

In the fourth quarter, Tater Huskey and Aidan Carson each scored a touchdown, helping Crest secure the Big South 3A conference championship.

Crest ends the regular season with an unblemished record of 10 wins and 0 losses, while Kings Mountain drops to 9 wins and 1 loss.

Both are currently anticipating their playoff schedule, which will be revealed on Saturday.
