What to watch this week: ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ ‘Priscilla,’ and Dolly Parton’s puppies.

Some of the latest entertainment content coming to your screens includes a two-hour special on CBS featuring Dolly Parton and adorable puppies, as well as the seventh and final season of the popular hospital drama, “The Good Doctor.” So get ready for new television shows, movies, music, and games on your devices.

Some other streaming options recommended by entertainment journalists at The Associated Press include the spin-off “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” featuring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, as well as Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”

Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers” was released in 2023 and did not receive any Oscar nominations. Despite this, it is considered one of the top films of the year. The movie follows a writer, played by Andrew Scott, who is working on a script based on his own life. As he delves into his past, he is reunited with his deceased parents (played by Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) and begins a romance with a neighbor (Paul Mescal). “All of Us Strangers” is a thought-provoking and emotional film that explores themes of acceptance, love, and forgiveness. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr described it as a “beautifully crafted journey” that will leave a lasting impact on audiences. The film will be available on Hulu starting Thursday.

“Priscilla,” directed by Sofia Coppola, will be released on Friday, Feb. 23. The film tells the dreamy and textured story of Priscilla Presley’s unconventional relationship with Elvis, and features standout performances from Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi. In my review, I described “Priscilla” as a cautionary fairy tale with a claustrophobic twist.

Two well-known participants in last year’s Academy Awards competition, both representing A24, will be available this week on Netflix. “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” a multiverse adventure created by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, will debut on Friday, February 23, almost exactly one year after its unexpected success at the Oscars. Also coming to Netflix on Saturday, February 24 is the 2023 nominee for best animated film, “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.” This charming stop-motion animation by Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer Camp tells the story of a one-inch tall seashell with a big heart and a charming affection for Lesley Stahl.

MGMT’s 10-track album “Loss of Life” is set to be released, after a lengthy period of production that the band describes as relatively smooth. The duo, consisting of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, humorously mentions that their music is currently at a 20% adult contemporary level. This album marks the first time that Christine and the Queens have been featured on an MGMT project, specifically on the track “Dancing in Babylon.” “Loss of Life” follows their previous album “Little Dark Age” from 2018 and has already produced singles such as “Nothing To Declare,” “Bubblegum Dog,” and “Mother Nature.” The album is scheduled to drop on Friday, February 23rd.

Allie X, a goth-pop singer, is taking a risk with her first self-produced album “Girl With No Face”. She describes the album as containing elements of death and rebirth, and expresses the need to create something solely from her own creativity. The artist, who has a background in classical training, hails from Toronto and has already released three tracks from the upcoming album. One of these tracks, “Black Eye”, is a unique blend of retro-electro sounds and features a music video directed by Allie X herself. The lyrics of the song include the lines “The world goes round/Makes me dizzy but I hold my ground/When I get nauseous I just gag it down.” The album is set to be released on Friday, February 23rd.

Dolly Parton is hosting a special event on CBS called “Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala” featuring doggy fashion and performances of her popular songs like “9 to 5” and “Jolene.” Other country artists, including Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce, Chris Janson, and KC of the Sunshine Band, will also be performing. Parton expressed her excitement for the show and believes animal lovers will enjoy it as well.

Three popular shows from ABC are making a comeback on Tuesday after an eight-month hiatus caused by the Hollywood strikes. These shows include “Will Trent,” which is based on books written by Karin Slaughter and features Ramon Rodriguez as a Georgia Bureau of Investigations agent. “The Rookie,” a police procedural starring Nathan Fillion, as well as the hospital drama “The Good Doctor” with Freddie Highmore returning for its seventh and final season, also return. All episodes can also be streamed on Hulu.

Fifteen years later, Netflix has released a live-action version of the beloved Nickelodeon animated show “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” The lead role of Aang, a 12-year-old boy tasked with saving the world, is played by Gordon Cormier. The show will debut on Thursday.

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, known for their roles in “The Walking Dead,” will be returning to the franchise in their own spin-off series, titled “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.” The limited series, consisting of six episodes, follows the story of Rick and Michonne as they struggle to reunite after being separated for a long time. Scott Gimple, who serves as the chief content officer for the franchise, collaborated with Lincoln and Gurira in creating the series. The show also features new characters portrayed by Terry O’Quinn, Lesley-Ann Brandt, and Aaron Bachelor. “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” will premiere on Sunday, February 25 on AMC and AMC+.

Ironwood Studios, a Seattle-based indie company, is merging the unique pop culture strangeness of the Pacific Northwest with the thrill of road trips in their new game, Pacific Drive. Your objective is to venture through the “Olympic Exclusion Zone,” a location where a mysterious organization’s experiments have caused supernatural phenomena. Your trusty companion is a worn-out station wagon (complete with classic wood paneling) that can be upgraded with gadgets found in abandoned labs. These upgrades are necessary to tackle the radiation and unusual weather in the Zone. Get ready to hit the road on Thursday, Feb. 22, on PlayStation 5 or PC.
