Technical difficulties across the country disrupt the operations of driver’s license offices in the United States.
There was a brief interruption in services at state offices in charge of issuing driver’s licenses due to a technology issue affecting the entire nation. This was reported by officials in Springfield, Illinois.
The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators stated that the disruption, occurring between 9:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. EDT, was caused by a loss of connectivity to the cloud.
According to a written statement by the group, the outage resulted in a halt of driver’s license and vehicle title issuances at several motor vehicle agencies.
The association, based in Arlington, Virginia, maintains a national computer network to allow the exchange of driver’s license information, including driver records.
The reason for the service interruption is under investigation.
Several states, including Illinois and Virginia, resorted to using social media to inform people that their services were disrupted.
The office of the Secretary of State in Illinois stated in an email that the system is utilized by all states to confirm a driver’s eligibility for a license and for other important purposes.
