On Wednesday, The Walt Disney Co. announced that it will invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games, the creator of the popular game “Fortnite.” The two companies will collaborate to build a vast “games and entertainment universe” that will include content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and other franchises.
In a statement, Disney CEO Bob Iger expressed that this is the largest step Disney has taken into the gaming world and presents significant potential for development and expansion.
Disney announced that they have previously worked together with the two companies on “Fortnite” material, such as the Marvel “Nexus War with Galactus.” This event attracted over 15.3 million players playing at the same time.
