The potential for a high-impact winter storm has forced the N.C. High School Athletic Association to change its plans for the wrestling state championships and basketball state playoff seeding this weekend.

Wrestling state championships were supposed to begin on Thursday and run through Saturday, while basketball state playoff brackets were scheduled to be released on Saturday.

That schedule has now been pushed back.

The wrestling state championships will begin on Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum. They will continue on Sunday and conclude with the state championships on Monday.

This weekend’s wrestling state championships will begin with weigh-ins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with wrestling beginning at 1 p.m. Weigh-ins will be at noon on Sunday, with wrestling starting at 1:30 p.m. On Monday, weigh-ins are at 7:30 a.m. and wrestling begins at 9 a.m.

“After monitoring the forecast for inclement weather scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, consulting with the Greensboro Coliseum Staff, and discussing with the multiple parties needed to conduct the wrestling tournament, we settled on a change in the wrestling schedule in the interest of safety for all of those involved,” said NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker.

A detailed schedule for the wrestling state championships is below.

Basketball playoff brackets will be released on Sunday, one day later than previously scheduled. This will allow conferences to play conference tournament games or tie-breaker games on Saturday, which will be used to seed the playoffs.

Schools now have until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday to report all basketball information to the NCHSAA.
