Will James Jr. drops 51 to send Holly Springs past White Oak
HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – Will James Jr. scoring in bunches is nothing new, but what he has saved for his senior season may be some of his best work.
A game after registering his 1,000th career point, the Toledo recruit posted a career-best 51 in Holly Springs’ 77-70 non-conference win over White Oak.
12 of the Golden Hawks’ 16 first-quarter points belonged to James Jr. He added another dozen in the second to head into the locker room with a 36-27 lead.
Late in the first half, Holly Springs began to make a run that would put the game out of reach. That run extended well into the third thanks to 16 more from James Jr..
6 of Jake Cackovic’s 14 points came in the fourth quarter as the Golden Hawks held off a late White Oak comeback.
The Vikings trailed 60-43 after three but managed to trim the deficit to as little as 74-69 with under two minutes remaining.
A James Jr. free throw and Cackovic dunk fueled one final run to make it a three-possession game.
The contest would end with 20.7 seconds remaining on the clock due to an injury suffered by White Oak’s Curtis Jackson that required substantial medical attention to his leg. Jackson led the Vikings with 28 points scored.
