Which Carolina Hurricanes are free agents this off-season? :: WRALSportsFan.com
The Carolina Hurricanes’ bid for another Stanley Cup ended, in somewhat shocking fashion, Thursday night against the New York Rangers.
Now the Hurricanes face a difficult off-season, one almost certain to reshape the roster.
Carolina led 3-1 in the third period, but the Rangers scored four unanswered goals to stun the PNC Arena crowd and end the Hurricanes’ season.
Will it also end the tenures of several top players? That was certainly the sense in the locker room after the game.
“We got so many guys that I don’t know if we’re gonna be back,” said Jordan Martinook, one of the team’s unrestricted free agents. “It’s hard to kind of fathom it right now, and I’ll be thinking about this for a long, long time.”
The NHL salary cap is expected to rise to $87.7 million next season, up from $83.5 million this season. The Hurricanes have about $27.3 million in projected cap space, according to CapFriendly.com.
“I’d love to roll this back with these guys, but who knows how that’s all going to shake out,” said coach Rod Brind’Amour, who also needs a new contract before next season.
Here’s a look at the Hurricanes’ free agents entering the off-season with information from CapFriendly.com and Spotrac.
