What to know about DeAngelo Lloyd, the new head football coach at Garinger

Garinger High School in Charlotte hired DeAngelo Lloyd to serve as its new head coach for the 2024 season.

Lloyd has replaced josh Williams, who lasted for one season. The Wildcats have lost 27 consecutive games, dating back to the fall 2021 season.

He was the head coach at Eastway Middle School, which is a couple of miles away from Garinger. His middle school team had a 2-5 record in his first year, 0-7 record in his second year, and a 4-3 record in his third year.

As a high school student, Lloyd attended Independence High School and won a state championship in basketball.

Lloyd attended the University of Tennessee from 1997-2001. He played football for the Volunteers and won a national championship as well as two SEC championships. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end posted 55 career tackles, nine tackles for a loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, an interception, nine pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.
