What does the future hold for the Panthers now that the season has ended?

Dennis Cox from 99.9 the Fan teams up with Kacy Hintz to assess the Carolina Panthers’ performance for the season now that it has ended.

Welcome back to the final episode of Sports Extra. We are wrapping up the season with a discussion of the Carolina Panthers’ loss. Our special guest for tonight is Dennis Cox from 99.9 The Fan, known for his appearances on the Panthers playbook. Thank you for joining us, Dennis. Your tweet perfectly summed up the disappointment of this season for the Panthers, including rookie quarterback Bryce Young. While some may label him as a bust based on his stats, how would you assess his first season and do you see potential for improvement in the future? Despite high expectations, it was a disappointing year for Bryce Young and the team as a whole. His performance may not have met expectations, but the circumstances surrounding him, such as a mid-season coaching change and a struggling offensive line and receiving corps, should also be taken into consideration. Ultimately, this led to a disappointing season for a number one overall pick, especially when compared to the success of the number two pick, CJ Stroud. However, we have seen other rookie quarterbacks struggle and still have successful careers, so there is still hope for Bryce Young. As for the future of interim coach Chris Tabor, it is unlikely that he will be the next head coach. Team owner David Tepper should first look within the organization before searching externally, as he has made hasty decisions regarding coaching in the past. It is crucial that the next coach fully supports and develops Bryce Young, as the franchise has invested heavily in him. The most pressing issue for the Panthers in the off-season will be improving their offensive line, which is currently lacking stability and depth. Without protection for the quarterback, it doesn’t matter how talented the receivers and running backs are. On a positive note, the defense has been a strong suit for the team this season, and players like Brian Burns and Derek Brown should be retained for next year. Burns, in particular, should not be let go, as the team has turned down multiple first round draft picks for him in the past. Overall, there are areas for improvement and decisions to be made, but there is still potential for the Panthers to bounce back next season. Thank you again for your insights, Dennis.
