Wake Forest secures two in-state recruits: Sam Neely and Jeremiah Melvin.
On Wednesday, two local players officially committed to Wake Forest by signing national letters of intent during the early signing period.
Both Sam Neely, a defensive back from Weddington High School, and Jeremiah Melvin, a wide receiver from Cape Fear High School, have officially committed to playing for the Demon Deacons.
Neely, a high school student at Weddington, has been given a three-star rating as a cornerback. According to On3.com, he is ranked as the 18th best player in North Carolina and the 37th best corner in the national Class of 2024.
At a height of 6 feet and a weight of 180 pounds, Neely had a total of 70 tackles this season, with six of them resulting in a loss. He also had 22 instances of deflecting passes and one instance of recovering a fumble in 14 games.
Weddington emerged victorious in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state championship.
Melvin was a standout player for Cape Fear, putting up impressive statistics on the offensive end. He is considered the most highly-rated recruit in Wake Forest’s incoming class.
Both On3.com and 247Sports.com classify Melvin as a four-star athlete, with 247Sports.com placing him as the seventh-ranked player in the state and the 33rd-ranked wide receiver in the country.
Melvin, who is 6 feet and 5 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds, had a total of 54 catches for 1,014 yards and 19 touchdowns during the Colts’ season.
