Uwharrie Charter got off to a quick start in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A dual-team wrestling state championship in Greensboro on Saturday, and the Eagles cruised to their third straight title.

The Eagles defeated Mount Airy 48-15 in the championship at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.

The first 21 points went to Uwharrie Charter, including a a pin in the 157-pound weight class by Aiden Foster. Lorenzo Alston was awarded a win by forfiet at the 165-pound weight class, then Caden Bond won an 11-5 decision over John Martin in the 175-pound weight class to give Uwharrie Charter a 21-0 lead.

Bond was named the Most Valuable Player of the wrestling state championship.

Mount Airy’s first points came in the 190-pound weight class where Andrew Meadows pinned Ryan Alvarez. The Grainte Bears got within 24-15, but Uwharie Charter reclaimed control in the 113-pound weight class with a 3-1 decision by Paxton Kearns over Justice Collins.

Kearns’ win helped Uwharrie Charter start a run. Andrew White won an 8-2 decision over Charlie Smith in the 120-pound weight class. The Eagles ended the match with straight pins by Caleb Saldana, Brennan Worrell, and Rick Ricardella.

The championship is the fourth all-time for Uwharrie Charter. The Eagles won titles in 2019, 2023, and 2024 beore this season. They are now tied for seventh all-time for most dual-team state championships.
