Union Pines displayed a commanding performance in the team championship of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A wrestling tournament, surpassing Eastern Guilford by 44.5 points.

On Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum, the Vikings emerged as champions with two winners and eight top-placing state competitors.

Samuel Aponte of Cape Fear, a three-time state champion, was honored with the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.
