UNC’s incoming class of in-state recruits is anchored by a talented group of three wide receivers.

The football team of North Carolina caused a stir on National Signing Day by losing their commitment from four-star wide receiver Keenan Jackson, who then proceeded to sign with their rival, NC State. However, the Tar Heels managed to secure the commitment of eight in-state recruits from high schools in North Carolina.

According to On3.com, Malcolm Ziglar, a four-star safety from Fuquay-Varina, is the top-rated player in the University of North Carolina’s recruiting class.

The group of wide receivers from the state also consists of skilled players such as Jordan Shipp from Providence Day, Alex Taylor from Grimsley, and Javarius Green from Crest.

The recruiting class for UNC that consists of in-state players is as follows:

Khalil Conley is a Cornerback who attends Christ School.

Conley, a highly-rated cornerback with three stars, holds the number nine spot in North Carolina according to ESPN. He has a height of 5-foot-11 and weighs 170 pounds. In the current season, Conley made 32 tackles in total, with five of them resulting in a loss, in 10 games. He also had two interceptions, seven pass deflections, and one blocked field goal.

Javarius Green is a wide receiver from Creston.

Green is a highly skilled wide receiver with a three-star ranking and is currently ranked as the 14th best player in the state according to 247Sports.com. In a span of 14 games, Green made 61 receptions, accumulated 1,245 yards, and scored 17 touchdowns while playing for Crest.

Desmond Jackson, Offensive Line, West Forsyth

According to On3.com, Jackson has been given a three-star rating and is currently ranked as the 26th best player in North Carolina. He measures 6 feet and 4 inches tall and weighs 285 pounds.

Jani Norwood, Offensive Line, Eastern Randolph

Norwood is a 3-star athlete who holds the No. 20 spot in the state rankings according to Rivals.com. He measures at 6 feet and 4 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds.

Jordan Shipp is a wide receiver who attends Providence Day School.

According to On3.com, Shipp holds a four-star rating and is recognized as the seventh best player in North Carolina. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 183 pounds, he had an impressive season with 66 receptions, 1,195 yards, and 15 touchdowns, ultimately contributing to Providence Day’s consecutive NCISAA Division I state title victories.

Curtis Simpson, Edge, Kings Mountain

According to ESPN, Simpson is a highly rated athlete with three stars and is ranked as the 15th best player in the state. In 12 matches, Simpson made 83 tackles, which included 21 tackles resulting in loss of yardage and 13 sacks. He also had 19 instances of pressuring the quarterback, three forced turnovers, two blocked punts, and one deflection of a pass.

Alex Taylor, Wide Receiver, Grimsley

Taylor is a highly rated wide receiver with a four-star ranking. According to Rivals.com, he is the fifth best player in the state and the 35th best receiver in the country. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 175 pounds, Taylor had an impressive season for the Whirlies with 1,067 yards and 14 touchdowns on 63 catches in 14 games.

Malcolm Ziglar, Safety, Fuquay-Varina

Ziglar is a highly rated athlete measuring 6 feet and 2 inches tall and weighing 195 pounds. According to On3.com, he is ranked as the fourth best player in the state. In his previous season, Ziglar accumulated 74 tackles, eight successful passes defended, three forced turnovers, and one fumble recovery resulting in a touchdown. Additionally, he contributed to the offense by rushing for 1,125 yards, receiving 114 yards, and scoring a total of 19 touchdowns.
