UNC adds commitment from Rolesville junior 4-star EDGE Zavion Griffin-Haynes
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s football program has landed another in-state commitment for the class of 2026. Rolesville High School junior edge defender Zavion Griffin-Haynes announced his pledge to the Tar Heels on Sunday.
Griffin-Haynes is listed at 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds. He is a consensus 4-star prospect and top 151 recruit nationally in the class of 2026. On3 is the highest on Griffin-Haynes, ranking him as the No. 77 junior in the country.
Ohio State was considered a favorite to land Griffin-Haynes up until late. Earlier on Sunday, Carolina offered Griffin-Haynes’ brother Jayden, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior linebacker.
Griffin-Haynes is already Mack Brown’s second in-state commitment for the class of 2026. Providence Day School quarterback Zaid Lott committed to the Tar Heels in June.
Over his recruitment, Griffin-Haynes received offers from (in order) Miami (OH), App State, South Carolina, Troy, Auburn, Charlotte, UCLA, NC State, Penn State, Miami, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, Illinois, Florida State, Ohio State, Western Michigan, Florida A&M, Ole Miss, Missouri, Michigan State, and Purdue.
Griffin-Haynes led Rolesville with 27 tackles for a loss and had 4.5 sacks as a sophomore. According to MaxPreps, Griffin-Haynes has four tackles so far this year.
Rolesville has a 2-1 overall record through three weeks. On Friday, the Rams travel to Cardinal Gibbons.
