Unbeaten Leesville Road shuts out Overhills, Goldston throws for 5 touchdowns
Leesville Road quarterback Deiondre Goldston threw for five touchdowns as the Pride defeated Overhills in a non-conference football game on Thursday night.
The Pride defense didn’t allow a single first down until the second quarter on its way to a 40-0 shutout win.
After Leesville Road’s opening drive stalled, the offense found its footing on its second drive. Deiondre Goldston completed a 37-yard pass to Ryan Huffman in the end zone to put the Pride up 7-0 midway through the first quarter. The two connected again for a nine-yard touchdown moments later pushing the lead to 14-0.
On Overhills’ ensuing drive, the Jaguars fumbled the ball away to the Pride. That led to a 15-yard pass completion from Deiondre Goldston to his brother, Devin Goldston, for a third Leesville Road touchdown. The Pride led 21-0 after one quarter.
After the Pride added a 31-yard field goal from Jake Bendell, the Leesville Road defense forced an intentional grounding penalty in the end zone, which resulted in a safety. Leesville Road led 26-0 with 2:28 left in the second quarter.
The Pride managed one more score before halftime. The Goldston brothers connected for a second touchdown with just 39 seconds left in the half. Leesville Road led 33-0 at the break.
Leesville Road’s final touchdown came early in the third quarter when Deiondre Goldston completed a 15-yard pass to AkShar Barnes for a score. That pushed Leesville Road’s lead to 40-0.
