Two Fayetteville football games moved due to lack of security coverage

An event in Cumberland County will require a large number of law enforcement resources on Friday, which means there aren’t enough resources for all Cumberland County high school football games.

“In accordance with district safety protocols and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s guidelines, which require law enforcement officers to be present at athletic events, there will not be enough officers available to provide adequate security for all Friday night games,” Cumberland County Schools said in a press release.

As a result, two Cumberland County football games have been moved this week.

Terry Sanford’s home game against Pine Forest has been moved to Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Westover’s home game against Triton has been postponed until Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

“Cumberland County Schools recognizes the inconvenience these changes may cause and appreciates the community’s understanding and flexibility as we prioritize the safety and security of all attendees at these events,” the district said.
