Tripp Honeycutt, the coach of South Davidson’s football team, has accepted a new position as head coach at Walkertown.

Tripp Honeycutt, the head football coach at South Davidson, has been selected to lead the Walkertown football team. The Wolfpack’s athletic department made the announcement earlier today on Thursday.

As one opportunity is taken, another one arises.

In early November, Garrett Mills resigned as the head football coach for Walkertown, creating an opening for the position. Just recently, Mills accepted the same role at Southern Guilford.

The Wolfpack are coming off of a 3-7 overall campaign after finishing 8-3 the year before when they had UNC-bound quarterback Bryce Baker.

During Honeycutt’s tenure as coach at South Davidson, the Wildcats achieved a record of 4-7 and qualified for the 1A West playoffs in both seasons. The 2022 team, under Honeycutt’s leadership, ended a 10-year playoff drought. Before Honeycutt’s arrival, South Davidson had not won more than four games in a season since 2004.

Reworded: Walkertown is part of the Mid-State 2A Conference, which includes teams such as McMichael, Morehead, North Forsyth, Reidsville, T.W. Andrews, and West Stokes.
