Tony McCants leaves Southern Alamance football program after a year
Southern Alamance High School needs a new head football coach for the second consecutive offseason.
Tony McCants has left the program, he told HighSchoolOT.
Last offseason, McCants was hired away from McMichael High School in Mayodan, Rockingham County. He said that the driving distance from where he lives to Southern Alamance became taxing. He wanted to resign with enough time for the school to find someone to replace him before spring ball.
Southern Alamance finished with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Central 3A Conference in McCants’ lone season.
With an average daily membership of 1,218 students this year, Southern is set to become a 6A program once the N.C. High School Athletic Association officially realigns into eight classifications later this year.
In the second draft of new conferences proposed by the NCHSAA, Southern was placed in a 5A/6A league with 5As Eastern Alamance, Person, Rockingham County, Southeast Alamance and Western Alamance as well as fellow 6A Williams.
