The Weddington boys’ team, ranked No. 9, maintains their winning streak with a victory over Monroe in a heated rivalry match.
The culture of Weddington boys basketball is centered on dominating in the months of February and March.
Just before the start of February, the Warriors defeated conference opponent Monroe with a final score of 69-44, bringing their overall record to 18-1.
During the first quarter, four players contributed to Weddington’s lead with a total of five three-point shots. Grant Hamilton led the charge with 7 out of his 14 points, giving the team a 21-12 advantage.
KJ Younger, the top scorer on the team, also performed well in the second half, scoring 10 points out of his total of 22. The skilled junior player made an impressive left-handed dunk during a fast break, and finished off the half with back-to-back three-point plays inside the paint.
The Warriors entered halftime with a 39-18 advantage and increased their lead from 21 to 32 points after eight minutes.
Aidan Cook made a personal record of five three-point shots in the game and ended with a total of 17 points.
In the second half, seven Weddington players contributed to the score, with Tyler Cain leading the Warriors with 4 points in the fourth quarter.
Kaegan Chambers and Bryson Simpkins each scored 10 points to lead Monroe.
Weddington begins the second half of conference play with a perfect record in league matches. On Friday, they will have a home game against Porter Ridge before heading out for three consecutive away games against Sun Valley, Cuthbertson, and Monroe.
