The upcoming TST event will see McDonald and the NC Courage compete for a grand prize of $1 million. The game will take place this summer and can be followed on WRALSportsFan.com.
Jessica McDonald, a team ambassador for the NC Courage, will lead the club in The Soccer Tournament, with a prize of $1 million, this summer at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
The TST, also known as the Soccer Tournament, is a yearly seven-a-side competition. It recently added a new women’s category and has revealed that ESPN will broadcast all 27 matches, including the title games for the men’s and women’s divisions, with the winning team taking home a prize of $1 million.
Three new teams have joined the eight-team lineup for the Women’s tournament: Heather O’Reilly’s US Women and SoccerHead FC. None of the players currently on the Courage roster will be participating in the tournament.
McDonald expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the TST this year and leading the NC Courage team. She described it as one of the most thrilling events in world soccer and considered it a great privilege to captain the team.
McDonald is aiding in the recruitment of members for her team.
“We believe that our team will be well-prepared to vie for the monetary reward,” stated Francie Gottsegen, the president of Courage.
Over 390 teams submitted applications to participate in the 2023 tournament. These teams included well-known clubs such as Wrexham AFC, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham, Wolverhampton, as well as notable athletes like Clint Dempsey and Steve Nash.
More than 25 individuals who have played for the U.S. National Team and have a combined total of over 1,400 appearances participated in the tournament, such as O’Reilly, Dempsey, Kristine Lilly, Jermaine Jones, Geoff Cameron, Chris Wondowlowski, and Breck Shea.
