The state’s top boys basketball teams have been ranked, with New Hanover moving up to the sixth spot.

New Hanover High School’s boys basketball team has moved up in the HSOT Statewide Top 25 rankings after securing impressive victories against strong competitors.

This week, New Hanover rose to the sixth spot in the state rankings following their victory over Laney, with a margin of over 26 points for the second time in a matter of weeks.

Northwood dropped to 7th place to accommodate New Hanover, with a record of 19-3.

Last week, Mount Tabor, United Faith Christian Academy, and South Central lost and were removed from the Top 25. Swansboro, The Burlington School, and Panther Creek have taken their places.

The latest HSOT’s Area Code Top 15 rankings have undergone significant updates this week, displayed below the statewide poll.

These are some aspects of our boys’ basketball ranking system:

  • Rankings are updated weekly and released on Monday
  • All high schools in North Carolina, except for athletic training academies, are qualified for the top 25 ranking across the state.

  • The state’s six area codes have a separate top 15 list that is updated on a weekly basis.

  • The rankings are on hold while the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs take place.

  • The rankings will be announced one week after the state championships.
