The Starting 22: Best players from week 0 of high school football

For each week of the 2024 high school football season, HighSchoolOT will release the Starting 22. It lists the best performances from every position across North Carolina. Last week was week one for the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association teams and week zero for the N.C. High School Athletic Association teams.

Coaches should send in performance nominations to [email protected] for consideration each week. Players cannot have a repeat selection later in the year, as the goal of this is to shine the light on as many players as possible.

Offense

QB — Zaid Lott, junior, Providence Day

  • In the first start of his high school career, the UNC commit was sensational. Lott completed 22-of-29 passing attempts for 449 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown on a broken play.

RB — Carson Clutter, senior, Charlotte Latin

  • Clutter had an organized effort against Ravenscroft, rushing for 120 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries.

RB — Anthony Hawkins, senior, Hickory Grove Christian

OL — David Sanders, senior, Providence Day

  • The 5-star Tennessee commit is unfair. He manhandles the opposition and then puts them back down to the ground when the whistle sounds. On defense, Sanders had three total tackles, including two tackles for a loss, and one sack.

OL — Donta’ Marshmon, senior, Trinity Christian

  • The big 6-foot-6, 320-pound right tackle had some nice moments of pass blocking during an otherwise bad night for Trinity Christian protecting its quarterback against Providence Day.

OL — Preston Broadway, junior, Metrolina Christian

  • The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Division I prospect put 15 pancake blocks on film from his performance in Metrolina’s 27-7 win over NRCA.
