The popular “The Soccer Tournament,” held at Cary’s WakeMed Soccer Park each of its first two years, will have a new sponsor and an expanded women’s bracket this year, organizers announced Wednesday.
The Soccer Tournament is a 7v7 world championship offering $1 million winner-take-all prizes for men and women. TST added a women’s bracket in 2024, adding that the $1 million prize is the same as the grand prize for the 48-team men’s tournament.
The women’s tournament will expand from eight to 16 teams in 2025.
RBC Wealth Management will sponsor this year’s men’s and women’s tournaments, tournament organizers said. TST kicks off on June 4 at WakeMed Soccer Park, with women’s play beginning on June 5. The event concludes June 9.
“Thanks to RBC Wealth Management, there will now be over 450 women in pursuit of the million-dollar purse. We can’t wait to see the competition unfold,” said TST CEO Jon Mugar.
In the inaugural women’s tournament, the NC Courage reached the finals but lost to the US Women’s National Team 6-3.
