The victorious team in the Mideastern Conference displayed an undeniable statement with their win over the other top team.

On Wednesday night, New Hanover, who is currently ranked seventh in the state according to the most recent HighSchoolOT rankings, dominated Laney with a strong third quarter and secured a comfortable 82-52 victory. This win comes as the league schedule reaches its midway point.

In the third quarter, New Hanover (16-0, 7-0) scored 33 points and extended their lead to 39-25 at halftime. They maintained a 30-point lead for most of the fourth quarter, resulting in a second loss of the season for Laney (14-2, 6-1).

In terms of overall contributions, New Hanover’s team had seven players who scored a minimum of eight points, but none scored more than 16. Junior Rodmik Allen, who scored 16 points, also made an impact on the game in various other ways. He was tenacious on defense and made some impressive assists early on to establish the team’s momentum, as he has consistently done throughout the season.

At the start of the first quarter, the Wildcats encountered difficulties with fouls. However, two freshmen, Jazir Wright-McGhee and Kam Witherspoon, stepped in and seamlessly kept the team going.

At this point, it was evident that the Wildcats are developing into a team capable of overcoming challenges during the playoffs.
