Frank Reich currently holds the title for the second shortest duration as an NFL head coach, having only coached for 11 games and securing one victory.

On Monday morning, the Carolina Panthers declared that Reich would not be remaining as the head coach. He only held the position for a short period of time, as he was appointed after Matt Rhule was fired midway through the 2022 season.

The decision was made the day following the Panthers’ 17-10 defeat against the Tennessee Titans, marking their fourth consecutive loss. The Panthers have yet to win a game on the road with an 0-6 record.

In the span of 11 weeks, the Panthers are performing poorly in terms of total offensive production and scoring. They have not been able to score more than 15 points in a single game since their bye week. Their rankings in the league reflect this, with a 30th place spot in both total offense and passing yards per game.

Tepper brought on Reich, who was the Panthers’ first quarterback in 1995, to cultivate the skills of quarterback Bryce Young, the top pick in the 2023 draft, and to revitalize an offense that has struggled in recent years.

However, despite Tepper’s purchase of the team in 2018 for $2.275 billion, the Panthers continue to rank low in most offensive statistics and are headed for their sixth consecutive losing season. Additionally, they are obligated to pay an estimated $9 million per season for Reich’s contract.
